Undefined Fantastic Object, the 12th installment of the Touhou Project. The Touhou Project is a series of danmaku shooters. Danmaku is a term than can be loosely translated (and quite aptly in my opinion) into "curtain of fire" or "bullet hell", thus denoting game where high density in bullet is more important that a lot of enemies. The series was created and is managed by the one man team Team Shanghai Alice, composed only of ZUN. For more information on the series, check the wiki at the end of the description.
"Wow, that was fast" you might say. Well, you are right, it was fast. Even though I got beaten in time by SadisticPenguin, I hold no grudge. He's better than me, I'm subscribed to him, and I respect everything he stand for... even if I wanted to be the first video of Nue on RUclips -_-
Nue Houjuu, as I previously stated, is the Ex-Boss of UFO, the recently released game Touhou Project. I woke up at 4am to found out the page I was planning getting the UFO from was out of service. What's the meaning of this? Simple, the page exceeded its bandwidth (I think). In other words, the game has been released. So I proceeded to get the game from another page. I went back to sleep after I found it and started downloading it, woke up at 8am to play it and I must say, I regret nothing. UFO might not be PCB, which I consider one of the greatest if not the greatest game in the Touhou Window series. However it wasn't a let down. The only thing I was a little sad about was the music. I feel Nazrin's theme and Sky Ruin (stage 3 music) where the only truly memorable pieces. But aside from the music: the atmosphere, the characters, the patterns, the "I HAVE NO MOUTH. AND I MUST SCREAM." difficulty, everything was undoubtedly made by the hand of one genius, ZUN. Hell, even the art (read well people) THE ART!!! of the game was magnificent. I don't know what ZUN did. I heard he received external help for the characters drawing, not sure. Whatever it was, this game's art maintains the uniqueness of Touhou without being bad. And that's difficult. Whatever ZUN did in that area, he should keep doing it. What can I say? I was totally satisfied with his work.
This game is just an excellent piece of art that works in perfect harmony, concluding in the final duel with Nue Houjuu, a nue youkai that serves as the Extra Boss of this monument to excellence. When Nue first appeared, it "wow" me. It wasn't because of how cute or good looking the character was (no really, after the first shock, I started thinking "Nue is kind of hot for being ZUN's drawing." No, the reason I was shocked was because the first time I saw her and heard her theme, I could only connect one thing, or rather, one girl to Nue:
Sister of the Devil, Flandre Scarlet.
I wasn't the only one thinking this. I made sure not to check the wiki or anything else until I fought her. After that, I gladly went to check her background and, like I was expecting, I wasn't the only one that made the connection. Nue's similarities with Flan are impacting: their peculiar wings, their age (visually), their dark Creepy Girl aura, their similar theme song, even their danmaku patterns. Everything about this "new" (lol, pun. How is Nue pronounced anyways?) girl screamed "DEVIL". As a matter fact, I didn't "knew" (lol, pun, again) what class of youkai she was until later, so at first I thought she was actually a devil. She even wields a trident. Though to be fair, Poseidon wielded one before Lucifer. The only reason I knew (how do you spell Nue? Is it like "New" or is it like "nuh-EH" or "NUH-eh?") was because A) ZUN wouldn't use a simple devil and B) if he did, he would add a pointy tail and two horns.
I would write more, but youtube said I exceeded my limit. Too wrap it up. As you can see, my PC is fixed; however, classes started and I will be less active. I'll tackle Nue again when an English patch becomes available. I'll write more about her then.

IKR. Kogasa's "Train choo-choo fuck you; you will use at least 2 bombs or one life on this spellcard even on easy mode, oh yah also something about ghosts i guess" attack is BULLSHIT. Oh, and the fairies in -Unzan's- Ichirin's Stage are SO DIFFICULT!!! Ughh...
HoujuuGaming That thing is confusing and dense as fuck on Hard mode.
Kogasa is difficult to figure out, on "Light falling large raindrops" or whatever the hell it's called, I can usually get past it but RNG can sometimes do me in and sometime I get hit without knowing what the fuck hit me. "Guerrilla Typhoon" can fuck off. I've captured it before on a few occasions but once again RNG is a bitch. "Karakasa Surprising Slash" is surprisingly easy. I die very rarely because it's just reaction based lasers. I guess if you were to time it out you'd have a tough time but ordinarily it's easy.

Maybe I'm overanalyzing, but to me, Heian Alien sounds like a mix between the general styles of Touhou music. You have the insane side near the start, going into the epic style, then the calm and beautiful parts (Which is very fitting because her battle style is a combination of others). Thus, the different parts flow very well together.

I thought that Nue's bracelet was the Seed of Unknown Form, not her serpent tail, and that her tail was on the end of her trident.
The spell card "Nightmare of Heiankyou" reminds me of Flandre's spell card "Taboo: and there will be none"

Am I the only one who thinks the attack at 2:58 looks like the scenes in Star Wars where they go into hyperspeed? It makes sense with the alien/spaceship aspect.

Nue is weird. UFO is generally considered up there in difficulty in Touhou games [Behind 11/15 usually; but still above average] but Nue is honestly one of the easier Extra bosses. Some of her spells are borderline jokes [Like her 3rd one]. Not to say Nue is *easy* but compared to the rest of UFO; she's not as hard. I'd say fights like Mokou; despite being in generally considered easier games, are harder than Nue is.

i wonder if you have noticed that all the UFO bosses except Shou & Byakuren have unique item danmaku. Nazrin - Pendulums, Kogasa - Umbrellas, Ichirin - Unzan's fists, Murasa - Anchors and finally Nue - UFOs

this is the first touhou video i've ever watched
It may be a long load time depending on the day. Weekends are terrible as people often times load during those days, as well as the quality of your videos. You have astounding quality, so it just takes longer.

@raak1010 No one can seem to agree on the order of the Extra Bosses in terms of difficulty. For me, Suwako is actually the most difficult, wheras Koishi and Nue are incredibly easy for me. Except for Koishi's "Philosophy of a Hated Person". That, in my opinion, has got to be the most difficult non-BS spell in all of Touhou.

@WoWMyrrh Only the lasers and blue bullet streams are the same. The things that actually kill you (or force you to wham into lasers) are completely different.
I haven't CAPTURED it yet, but yeah, Nue's Timeout is pretty easy. Personally, I think Invasion of Terror is easy, too. Nue overall is pretty easy for an Extra Boss, though she does trip me up a LOT with her Red UFOs.

The Red UFO Bard-err Invasion of Rage spellcard reminds me of Mamizou's first spell card. Except it's gingerbread men shooting at you.

i know im posting loads of comments lol but, 7:55 i believe Ran turns transparent and has a "card shape" aura that acts as a shield if i remember correctly. Now Flandre.. how does turning into a bat prevent you from being touched by a Giant Freakin' Laser and Divine Exploding Orbs?
I absolutely hate it when people compare spellcards of one character to previous characters. Especially for EVERY SINGLE SPELLCARD that character shows. It's so annoying. When you compare it to 'stealing', you're essentially saying that ZUN has no creativity.
The problem with that statement is that in this case it's referring to Nue, a character whose species is specifically an amalgamation of multiple animals. It would make sense for Nue to take more than a couple of cues from other characters.
And whether it was intentional or not, this all started when the initial reaction to Nue's appearance and theme song was "That looks/sounds a lot like Flandre's". And that wasn't a localized reaction, it was fairly widespread.
Again, that might not had been ZUN's intention (personally I like to think it was), but it was the end result.
Nue's final spellcard really puts Aya's Illusionary Dominance to shame doesn't it? XD The music wasn't that great for me, though... and the survival card could use better... patterns are graphics... it brings me back to Flandre's And Then There Were None card... Koishi's Philosophy of a Hated Person and Youkai Polygraph were funner survival cards, heh... but still, awesome job on beating TH12 so soon! =)

I have try to beat houjuu nue today... i was only able to go to the spellcard n°9... it's a little hard but possible, i always lost 2 live against the green ufo spell card, and rainbow ufo spellcard... so i lost 4 lives because of 2 spellcard, if i can lost only 1-2, and not 4 i think i can win... Anyway, congrulation for beating her up^^

I actually found it to be one of the easier one's. PCB & EoSD challenged me much more. Although, maybe my reactions have just been honed so much over time. :)

at least nue's spellcards are a little changed from their 'originals' .... Byakuren got that one completely equal to Shinki! O: Ya know which one i mean? The one which is a little like honest mans death from mokou... danmaku to your left and right and then those balls ... later on 2 lasers... :x
Her last spell reminds me of Rain.....and now try dodge rain^^ Nue is one of the hardest Ex-Bosses (maybe due to the cold-blooded nature of Touhou). I would say she's the hardest in the Windows canon^^ I miss the PC-98 era...all these impossible Ex-bosses :3

@SoulOfRandomness its must have spawned some danmaku as you touched a part of it, the aura itself is classed as background (much like space warping around some characters) and has no hitbox.
